What Happened:

In July 2017 the province of British Columbia declared a state of emergency for the first time in 14 years with more than 200 fires burning, mostly in central BC. This was the longest state of emergency in the province’s history, lasting 10 weeks. 65,000 people were evacuated and between the 3 most notable fires over 787,311 hectares burned.

What MDS Will Do:

MDS volunteers will be staying at Cariboo Bethel Church in Williams Lake. Sleeping accommodations, washroom facilities and dining facilities will be in the church with a shower trailer set up in the parking lot. Volunteers will be working on rebuilding and repairing work with the possibility of some brush clearing and fence building as well.

Williams Lake will be hosting the Summer Youth Program from July 1 to August 4, 2018.
