Williams Lake, B.C., Weekly Report, Sept 24-28, 2018
October 2, 2018
This week we enjoyed the company of 18 volunteers staying at the Cariboo Bethel Church as well as 4 Alberta men who joined us mid-week. States and provinces represented were: Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Maryland. Farewell and bon voyage to 4 long term staff – Dave, Donalda, Matthew B and Brydon as well as to the short term staff – Art & Edna, cooks for a week, Jonathan, Duane & Barbara, Julian and Abe & Shirley.
A house dedication took place on Friday, September 28 at 2:30 pm with all MDS volunteers attending. Friends, family and MDS volunteers joined in Joan’s house warming celebration. A short dedication program included words of greeting, a prayer of blessing, a quilt and Bible presentation, an MDS group song of “How Great thou Art” and a response from Joan. Tim Horton’s coffee and donuts were served.
Jim and Sue returned from their trip east on Tuesday evening. The electricians were there on Thursday. Once the siding arrives, it will be all hands on deck again.
Siding as well as the dry-wall taping/mudding reached its completion at Sandi Chilton’s house and painting began on Thursday.
At Rita Petrin’s house, it was full steam ahead from a crew of about 9 to 10 working at her house everyday. This cooperative effort enabled the completion this week of the plumbing, insulation, dry-walling, mudding/taping, electrical as well as the roof. Rita, the homeowner, visited her home on Thursday and expressed thankfulness for the assistance that MDS was providing for her but was not sure how she could fully express that. As she combed around in the ruins, she found salvageable items that she could, as she stated, “start decorating again.”
We are grateful for God’s guidance in construction decisions and time lines that needed to be made, for safety both during travel and on the job site, and for the natural mountainous beauty that we could enjoy en route to the homes. God indeed sent MDS to Williams Lake and we were privileged to stand on holy ground together with our clients, the volunteers and the church as well as the business community.
