Williams Lake, B.C., Weekly Report, June 4-8, 2018
June 22, 2018
Ten volunteers were at Williams Lake, B.C. this past week. Four of the volunteers were from the United States, two from region one and two from region two. Six of the volunteers were from Canada.
Sha’ Tara and Henry, worked on the Scheffler home. They finished framing and started bracing the exterior walls. The underground electric service was run to the house. Drainage line was installed and backfilling was started.
Dale, Mary Ella, Julia Ann and Justin, worked on the Carlson home. They finished installing and bracing the Fox Blocks for the foundation walls. They formed the pads for the porch supports. The walls and porch pads were readied for the pouring of concrete.
The Scheffler site is a 45 minute drive south from the camp base and the Carlson site is an hour drive north from the camp base at Williams Lake. Our Director, Ben, worked on both sites. He started most days at the Scheffler site. Once things were moving along there, he took care of tasks such as ordering more materials. Then he traveled to the Carlson site to help or see if they had everything they needed.
Joan was our cook. She worked very hard making us delicious meals each day. She orientated the girls that will be cooking for us next week. Marlene took care of housekeeping and assisted where needed. Dorothy took care of the office tasks.
This was the first week on this site for most of the volunteers. The weather was cold with rain, sleet and hail one day and sunny and warm the next making it a challenge for the workers. A great deal was accomplished and all felt very good with the progress at the end of the week.
