The California Unit completed a week-long Unit project July 5 to July 11, 2017. The Unit removed down trees from around the cabins at Camp Keola, a Mennonite Camp in the Sierra Nevada mountain east of Fresno CA. The unit provided a “Bobcat” skidsteer to assist with the removal of the trees. Volunteers removed over 20 trees that were around the cabins. Volunteers also re-built sections of the Camp’s boat and swimming docks on Lake Huntington. 13 volunteers (8 first time volunteers) performed 322 hours of volunteer service. The Camp provided excellent housing and meals for the volunteers.
For a little inspiration, watch this video of how volunteers in California are impacting community members in Lake County and helping them come back home after wildfires destroyed more than 1,300 houses.
MDS and the California Unit are also working to rebuild homes in Calaveras County after wildfires destroyed nearly 500 homes in the area.
