MDS Canada

Mennonite Disaster Service Canada responds in Christian love to those affected by disasters in Canada and mobilizes Canadian volunteers for disasters in the U.S. On average, about 700 Canadians serve with MDS in North America each year.

MDS Canada is made up of six regional/provincial units (Atlantic, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C.) Each unit has a volunteer board chair and officers.  For larger and long-term disaster response MDS Canada coordinates with the MDS binational office in the U.S. and the U.S. regions and units to send additional operational support and volunteers. The first line of disaster response is at the local or “Unit” level depending on the size of the disaster. Units are comprised of volunteers within congregations located in a specific geographic area. If the need is greater than a unit’s resources and capacity, MDS Canada will respond as well.
