MDS has four regions in the U.S., and MDS Canada. In Canada, there are six provincial units that make up MDS Canada (Atlantic, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C.). Each unit has a volunteer board chair and officers. The first line of disaster response is at the local or “Unit” level, depending on the size of the disaster. Units are comprised of volunteers located in a specific geographic area. If the need in a unit is greater than what the unit can handle, MDS Canada coordinates with the MDS binational office in the U.S. and the U.S. regions and units to send additional operational support and volunteers.
