Wharton, TX – Weekly Report – Nov 18-22, 2019
November 27, 2019
Warm weather returned to us and was welcomed by the short term volunteers, especially the ones from Duchess Alberta. We also had volunteers from Kansas and Washington.
Wayne Warren joined our team for the next 4 weeks, having come to us as a first time MDS er from Manitoba. Paul and Lisa Schamback from New York have arrived as well. This means we have to say goodbye to two long term volunteers and this is always the hard part of MDS. Hello and goodbye, but more favourable, “see you again”!
Work on Ms. Debra Byrd’s house included baseboards and final coat on the walls.
Mr. David Farris and his fiancé Hazel joined us for supper this week. David shared his story of how his home was flooded and nothing could be saved as he was rescued by boat. His home has had more painting, ceramic tile in the bathrooms and some closets, cupboards were also finished with hardware which makes everything pretty!
The 3 bedroom house we took on at the end of last week, is the home for Mr. Raul Tabarez, his wife and 2 children. The interior has been painted and the laminate flooring completed. What fun to have moved along so quickly in that home. Mr. Raul is so pleased.
We also started another 3 bedroom 2 bath home for a larger family. Ms. Juana Plasencia is a hard working lady and is currently living in an RV. We took this home on at the painting stage and it will be wonderful to make progress on it for her.
Next week we will be working on ceramic flooring, and more painting of course, but we will also join in giving thanks to our good good Father in heaven for all his many gifts!
