West Virginia – Weekly Report – March 15-19, 2021
March 25, 2021
The West Virginia Bridges project transitioned from a Region I project to binational at the beginning of March. The month began with Stanley Jantzi as Project Director. Joyce Burkholder worked remotely from Virginia to cover the Office Manager position. The camp was set up at the Reba Christian Center in Lewisburg, WV. Nine weekly volunteers helped complete a sixty foot driveway bridge for Mr. Ron Russell. This took 1 ½ weeks, with the remainder of the second week spent moving the base 100 miles to Clendenin, WV. Kurt Melby of Oklahoma operated the heavy equipment and his wife, Georgann cooked for everyone. The Melbys will be staying through April 1.
Dave and Patti Hughes arrived from Ohio on March 13 to serve as Project Director and Office Manager. A group of nine men from Shiloh, Ohio came this week to help build a twenty-five-foot bridge for Mr. Robert Adkins. The Adkins family was very pleased to receive this replacement bridge to access their home and showed their gratitude by providing snacks and hot food each day. The volunteers worked with skill and enthusiasm. A couple of them were even able to give Kurt a break on the power equipment. It was a great week and very satisfying to see another bridge completed.
