Victoria County, Texas, Weekly Report, Nov 5-9, 2018

November 13, 2018

This week eight of our short term volunteers came from Pennsylvania, and one young man travelled from California to come and help. We also welcomed Marvin and Darlene Rohrer-Meck from Ohio and Tom and Carol Wieler from Manitoba.

We enjoyed devotionals this week which included the scripture of 1 Corinthians 12 referring to many parts and one body. MDS itself is made up of many parts, and the different Christian faiths also are different parts, but belong to the same body. We had a good variety of these this week.

Ernie Licerio’s house is beginning to look like a home more and more each day. The cabinets and countertops have been installed, and doors and hardware also have been hung. A concrete ramp was poured by our volunteers.   The house is waiting for a crew of people who have attention to detail and want to turn the house into a home. We anticipate a group of 14 coming from Indiana who will be exactly those people!

Laura Gonzales and Victor Martinez’s home had the mudding and sanding completed and one coat of priming done. The siding was completed as well but the heat took its toll on many volunteers.

John and Carol White’s home is progressing with painting completed. Flooring and interior window boxes and trim were worked on.

The largest challenge at the beginning of this week was the 87°F temperature accompanied by 90% humidity. Most of the volunteers were happy it was November and not the temperatures the summer crews would have endured.

This crew of volunteers faced numerous health issues as well, but doggedly went out and gave it their all. We are truly blessed with the commitment of each person.
