Victoria County, Tex., Weekly Report, March 5-9, 2018
April 5, 2018
This week we had four men from Lombard, Illinois, join us along with eight women from Pennsylvania. They accomplished a lot in the beautiful sunny weather! Each group is interesting and fun to get to know and these were no exception!
On Monday, a large crew went to the second new build which will be a home for Lupe, Roxy and their 20 year old son and 18 year old daughter, all of whom have become very good friends with all of us! They are so excited to see the walls go up and the house take shape. Their son works right along with the crew there every day. Another crew continued work at Ben and Vicky’s – taping, mudding, and repairing rotten flooring. A crew of young women were going to tear off a roof on Tuesday. They took shelter inside during the rainstorm, but it turned out to be a beautiful day and they promptly got on the roof and started tearing shingles off. Finishing that, they began nailing on the sheeting. They started the shingles on Wednesday and finished that up on Thursday.
A highlight of the week was having a musical sing along with Lupe and family on Thursday evening. They had brought us a meal of enchiladas, rice and beans which we enjoyed, and then we enjoyed the music together!
Next week we plan to shingle at Lupe’s, and also install doors and windows. We will frame the new build at Joe’s, continue painting the exterior at Linda and Pat’s and begin drywall, along with continuing the drywall and plumbing at Vicky’s.
