Victoria County, Tex. – Weekly Report – January 19, 2018
March 4, 2018
This week there were eight young men from Michigan, a couple from Canada, and a couple from Illinois along with 11 project crew volunteers.
Our work consisted mainly of continuing to tear out walls, putting up drywall at several houses, and beginning the mudding and sanding process. The crews also built a washroom addition to a house along with putting in new doors.
A surprise for the week was having ice and sleet in southern Texas, along with a freezing wind! Very unusual here and the people are quite unprepared with heat sources to keep themselves warm, especially with just tarps on their houses.
Next week we will be continuing with drywall and mudding on several homes.
There was an unusual experience at our project this week. Stefi Dick called the MDS house to ask if they had a fire. They said no, but then realized fire trucks were indeed coming to their house! The shed in the backyard that housed a pig was on fire! The pig managed to get himself out and into the yard. The fire was put out and our MDS volunteers then cleaned up the area and got the pig back home!
