Ukiah, CA – Weekly Report – Jan 6-10, 2020
January 16, 2020
Greetings from sunny California – – – liquid sunshine that is. We’ve entered the rainy season and are dealing with rain and work sites that have straw spread around to keep the mud down.
This week brought us six volunteers from Wisconsin and one two week volunteer from Canada. We also welcomed new long term volunteers: Christa (Cook) and Steve (Crew Leader) from upstate New York; Ingrid (Assistant Cook) and Ralph (Crew Leader) from Nova Scotia; and Gideon (a year long MDS volunteer from Germany). Robert and Sally returned from Christmas break to serve again in Ukiah. Pat Powell, project coordinator also joined us for several days.
This week’s work at Gayle Zapeda’s home was lots of drywall mudding and sanding, getting ready for paint.
John O’Neal’s framing continued with the porch construction, vent and windows installation. Exterior trim and siding were also started.
At Ed Norton’s home, we concentrated on items that were needed to get the house ready for inspection. We worked specifically on electrical wiring and plumbing to complete the house for inspection. We are looking forward to being able to proceed with this house soon.
It was a great first week back from Christmas break. We’re looking forward to a great winter.
Blessings from Ukiah, Christa & Steve, Ingrid & Ralph, Gideon, Sally & Robert
