Saipan, N.M.I. – Weekly Report – Oct 14-18, 2019

October 31, 2019

The song, “One Day At A Time sweet Jesus” comes to mind as we reflect on the arrival of our new volunteers this week.  On Sunday one came from Manitoba, one from Colorado and the third from Kansas.  On Monday morning, one arrived from Mississippi and on Tuesday another from Kansas.  These five joined our volunteers from the previous week, bringing our team to fifteen.

Finishing touches were done on Doris and Theresa’s house.  Work was started on Elaine’s house, building and installing trusses as well as the tin roof.   Several worked on the construction of a new outhouse for Elaine and Angel.

Highlight of the week was gathering for a short dedication of both Theresa and Doris’ homes Wednesday evening and having Ashland and Jennifer from FEMA come to the ceremony as well.  They commented that this put everything into perspective as to why we all come and serve in this way.  Theresa and Eric as well as Doris and Ben expressed their deep appreciation for all the love shown to them through the many volunteers that worked on their homes.

Next week we will install windows and doors and add finishing touches to Elaine’s house.   We’ll see what other small jobs we can complete before closing down the site for the month of October.

As the song continues, “Just give me the strength to do everyday what I have to do” we truly do rely on God’s provision while working in the intense heat, one day at a time.
