Saipan, N.M.I. – Weekly Report – Dec 9-13, 2019

On Friday we Dedicated Vicky Saures home. The picture attached is from the thank you bar-b-que they threw for us as their thanks for our work.
This is a bit about their story and picture of before and after.
On the night of October 24, 2018 Vicky Saures and her family thought they were prepared for Typhoon Yutu. They expected this typhoon to pass like many others with a little wind and lots of rain. But as the night grew deeper, the winds and rains grew stronger.
Vicky said, “When the wind got so strong it started lifting the roof off of our house, we ran to our neighbors home. We were lucky no one was hurt from stuff flying in the winds. When we returned the next day our roof was gone and most of our possessions were ruined from the rain. We went many months without electricity and when we ran out of food we had to eat MRE’s (Meals Ready to Eat) provided by the government until we could get food.”
Vicky’s mom applied for help with FEMA and FEMA showed MDS the project. Vicky started crying when she found out she would get her house repaired. One week after our team arrived her home was reroofed, new lighting fixtures and doors were added and we dedicated her home. Our team provided a few “extras” to light up the home as well.
That last night her family held a bar-b-que to thank us for restoring their home and their lives. These pictures are of her home and family before and after MDS finished.
