Ponce, Puerto Rico, Weekly Report, July 1-7, 2018
July 12, 2018
This week our group came from Harrisonburg, Virginia: Marty Miller, Joe Yoder, Kent Davis Sensenig, Matt Carlson, and Brian Martin Burkholder. Adam and Jeni Yoder, visiting from Eastern Mennonite University (scouting for a future EMU cross-cultural), volunteered for the day on Tuesday.
The week was spent laying block and putting in electrical and plumbing — we are now about eight courses high. Now that the project is up and running, I have a little more free-time from all the office work, so Thursday morning I got to help lay block.
Sunday after church we were all invited to the Pastor’s house for a snack that then evolved into a full-blown meal. On Monday night, the whole group (plus Jeni and Adam) met at Chiro and Lery’s to hear their hurricane story. On Wednesday we went to their house again, this time for pinchos. When Nilda and Carmen brought supper one night, the group visited with them and learned about their hurricane story.
Tropical Storm/Hurricane Beryl is schedule to make landfall on Monday, so we may not get as much work done this next week. If possible, we would like to finish laying the block.
