Ponce, PR – Weekly Report – Feb 3-7, 2020

February 11, 2020

Joining us this week was a lively group of eleven from the Holly Grove Mennonite Church in MD, including Pastor James Wengerd.  Very soon we discovered they enjoy being together and willing to do whatever tasks are asked of them.  In addition, Neal Rempel from Ontario began his four weeks of service.

At Lucy’s house, the final pour on the back wall was completed, as well as, the construction of a wooden stairs at the front of her house.   Groundwork was done in preparation for pouring a cement pad for her washing machine.  At Esther’s house, all the groundwork, placement of all- thread and rebar, as well as, pouring of cement for the two reinforcement walls between pillars, was completed.

Highlights of the week included an outing to El Salto De Collores (the jump) where our team enjoyed a refreshing time by the waterfalls.  Esther’s generous hospitality of offering us coffee, cool drinks, food and vibrant smiles were an inspiration to all.   It was fun to “surprise” David by singing Happy Birthday and eating a scrumptious cake prepared for him.

Next week the Ponce team will pour the cement pad for Lucy’s washing machine.   At Esther’s house, forms will be removed, some kitchen cabinets hung and final cleanup of the work site.  Work at Ulysses house should again get underway.

Word was received this week that the Utuado site should be shut down, so Don & Rachel spent Friday and Saturday loading all the household supplies into the tool trailer and brought them to Ponce.  These supplies will be put to good use in the unfurnished apartment volunteers are currently being housed in.  We pray for God to revel who it is that we need to serve going forward.
