18 Oct 22, Sunday evening met with the six new Short Term MDS Volunteers, Dave Nice COVID-19 Mitigation Coordinator, Gary Zehr MDS Office Manager, and myself, provided the MDS New Volunteer Orientation briefings.
Five of the individuals came from the same area and in a single transit van. One individual came from a location approximately 30 miles from the first group. Volunteers were billeted with consideration of COVID-19 preventions. The groups of five volunteers were all billeted in the church parsonage facility. Four individuals (two each) were billet in six-person rooms. The one female was billeted alone, in the remaining six person room. The one person who have arrive come from another nearby location was billeted in an RV trailer. All seemed content with the accommodations.
19 Oct 2020, I gave the Morning Devotion.
Richard’s team was assigned to do siding at the Jeff Thigpen’s property (191 Thigpen Lain, Trenton, NC). This job had been started last year. Installing vinyl siding on the exterior building remains to be done.
The team was able to nearly complete the siding job, on the first day. The Team Chief estimated that it would take no more than four hours to complete the job. The eight hours day of work ended at 4:00 PM.
Phil’s team was assigned to do interior work on Madelyn Phiyaw’s property. The job included; wall insulation, ceiling insulation and drywall, wall dry-walling, a significant amount of floor leveling, and floor support work.
By the end of the workday, the team had completed more than half of the wall insulation and nearly haft of the drywall work. The eight hours day of work ended at 4:00 PM.
Unfortunately, late in the evening, Stephanie called to inform us that an insulation inspection was still required for both the wall and ceiling. She asked that we halt all insulating and drywall work. She will coordinate for an inspection as soon as possible.
After we had closed the normal work-day, I drove to the Scott Murphy property. This was the property that Stephanie had asked us to look at.
Scott was not at the property. He asked, and I agreed that we meet the following afternoon (5:30 PM). At that time, we would be able to walk through and evaluate the property.
20 Oct 2020, Dave gave the Morning Devotion.
Richard’s team was able to complete siding at the Jeff Thigpen’s property, by noon.
As a follow-on job, I had instructed the team to move on to the new build house. The exterior needed to have all of the hardy-board caulked.
Richard’s team was able to nearly complete the job, before the end of the day. It will require about an hour of time the following day. The eight hours day of work ended at 4:00 PM.
Phil’s team worked on supporting an area floor area. Afterward, they leveled our all of the uneven floor areas. They had to remove part of the ceiling and install R-38 insulation.
The insulation inspector has been scheduled for Wednesday morning. The eight hours day of work ended at 4:00 PM.
After we had closed the normal work-day, I again drove to the Scott Murphy property. Scott could not make the agreed on meeting because of a sickness. His stepfather did meet me, and together, we walked through the property (while talking to Scott via phone).
21 Oct 2020, Nelson gave the Morning Devotion.
Richard’s team completed hardy-board caulking of the new house at. After caulking, the team began primer painting. They will start final painting tomorrow.

Phil’s team installed insulation into the interior walls. After receiving a successful insulation inspection, the team completed the insulation of the exterior walls. By close of business, most of the dry-wall had been hung. The eight hours day of work ended at 4:00 PM.
22 Oct 2020, Marsha gave the Morning Devotion.
Richard’s team completed exterior primer painting of the new house. By the end of the day, the team nearly completed painting the house. They will complete all of the painting tomorrow. The eight hours day of work ended at 4:00 PM.
Phil’s volunteer team completed floor leveling and dry-walling of the Plantation Road property. By the end of the day, we had patched multiple holes in the ceiling and mud much of the property.
During the morning work period, the property owner (Madelyn Philyaw) stopped by to talk and view the property. She was very happy to see repair and rebuilding activity, of her home. The eight hours day of work ended at 4:00 PM.
23 Oct 2020, Gary gave the Morning Devotion.
Richard’s team completed painting of the Trenton property exterior. By 2:00 PM, the team had completed all painting work, dissembling of the scaffolding, and cleaned the area. The six hours day of work ended at 2:00 PM.
During the morning hours, I had asked Richard to accompanying me, as we evaluated Scott Murphy’s property. At the property, we met Scott; who walked us through the property as he explained the damage and what he believed needed to be repaired.
The primary area needing repair included; installing ceilings in the rear enclosed porch and bathroom area, blowing in attic insulation, install R-15 insulation within the living room walls, installing vinyl laminate flooring, remove wall paneling, and installing new access doorways to both the main bathroom and bedroom.
All of the required repair materials (blow and paneled insulation and laminate flooring) were already stored at the property.
By mid-day, Phil’s MDS volunteer team completed initial dry-wall mudding, of the Plantation Lain property and most of the dry-wall paper mudding.
Both teams ended work early on Friday, because the volunteers had requested to depart for Pennsylvania, late that after. Before departing, the vehicles were unloaded and cleaned. The four hours day of work ended at 12:00 AM.
