Pine Ridge – Weekly Update – October 30-November 3, 2017
November 9, 2017
Following the first Pine Ridge home dedication last week, two more homes were turned over to new owners this week. Both dedications took place on November 1, 2017. During her home dedication, Jackie Blackbear received her keys and a wall hanging. A couple of hours later on the same day, Wyleen Roubideaux accepted a quilt from MDS cook Joan Dyck as part of her home dedication. The quilts are lovingly provided by Mennonite Women USA.
We’re so grateful for the many hands and hearts that contributed to replacing damaged homes for Lakota tribal members. This is a wonderful expression of Christ’s love, and it also is a concrete demonstration of the important Lakota values of compassion and generosity.
One more home, begun in the spring of 2017, is in the last phases of interior finishing, with drywall completed and painting begun. The dedication for the fourth and final home completion in 2017 is expected before the end of November.
Finally, in other news from Pine Ridge, the ground has been broken for two homes in the next phase of work. After a break during the winter, work is expected to continue sometime in the spring of 2018.
It has become much colder here in the northern Plains during the last couple of weeks. Despite the colder temperatures and a little taste of snowy winter, the willingness of those serving here provides the wonderful warmth of a community with a common purpose and calling. We are very thankful to God for his provision and care
