Pine Ridge, South Dakota, Weekly Report, Oct 15-19, 2018

October 23, 2018

This week brought six new volunteers from NC, two from PA, two from IA, and one from MN, for a total of eleven weekly volunteers. We had nice weather and with experienced volunteers much work was completed this week.

Crew Leader Dave Slabaugh and crew worked at Ray’s house and completed nearly everything needed to ready the home for the home owner. Water and electric hook-up is still required and we are waiting on a refrigerator and stove.

Crew Leader Michael Loss and crew worked on Gaylne’s house and completed nearly everything needed to ready the home for the home owner. Water and electric hook-up is still required and we are waiting on a refrigerator and stove as well. In addition, work was performed to trace electric wiring to switches, lights, and the electric panel box.

At Tammy’s house, Fred and crew installed windows, exterior doors, and completed the siding on the house. This home has been weather proofed for the coming winter while the site is closed.

Maretta, the long term recovery team leader, returned with John, one of our clients, and they provided the new volunteers with a briefing on the selection process of individual people receiving assistance for disaster relief, and John gave us a testimonial on his life.

Our long term volunteers did a sightseeing trip to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial and the Black Hill area on our return to camp. We also need to express our delight on the great food provided to us by our great cooks. It was a good week with a lot of work completed on homes, sightseeing, and of course the wonderful meals made by our Canadian cooks.

We are looking forward to the smaller group coming in next week and are hopeful that we will reach our goal of having six homes ready for our clients before we close for the winter.

We thank all volunteers that have taken time out of their lives to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Blessings to each one.
