Pine Ridge, SD – Weekly Report – May 6-10, 2019
May 13, 2019
Joining us this week from Yellow Creek Mennonite Church in Goshen, Indiana, was a group of ten experienced MDS volunteers. This was the second week of service for two volunteers from Archbold, Ohio and Goshen, Indiana. Two volunteers from Nebraska arrived to prepare for the building of a volunteer center for the community.
Another challenging weather week was experienced. It seemed that the rain and the mud just wouldn’t let up. Fortunately, indoor work was available.
The dry wall was hung and tapped at Jhacie’s house. Dry wall and painting were finished at Tammy’s house. A ramp was built for Gaylne. Some finish work was completed inside Gaylne’s house.
More wonderful music was enjoyed by the volunteers. This week the musical Wiebe’s were joined by our bass player from Nebraska. Delicious food was enjoyed by all throughout the week.
One evening, homeowner Tammy and her son joined us for supper. They described their experiences with the storm that came through and many aspects of their life on the reservation.
The highlight of the week was when the sun came out on Thursday. Volunteers enjoyed a hike up the hill near the camp to enjoy the sunset.
Thanks to all the inspiring volunteers who came this week and contributed to the progress made on the homes.
