Pine Ridge, SD – Weekly Report – August 26-30, 2019

September 3, 2019

This week we are having a large turnover of volunteers. Don Mintmeier is being replaced by Dan Wiebe. Evelyn Turner is being replaced by Pam Wiebe. Gary Zehr is being replaced by Michele WhiteEagle. In addition, Ryan Sprunger, Paul Schamback, and Nancy and Lloyd Chapman are also leaving. Thank for your service here at Pine Ridge.

Four short term volunteers from Arizona, Idaho, and New Mexico arrived for service. In addition, eleven volunteers from Manitoba, Canada served for the week. Dan and Pam Wiebe, with their four children, have arrived continuing their one-year service with Mennonite Disaster Service.

At the Volunteer Center, work continues: the roof was completed, soffit, facia, and metal siding were started, and windows were installed.

At Merle’s home, insulation was completed through the house. All exterior painting was completed. Drywall was installed and taping and mudding were started. Most of the first coat was finished.

At Clifford’s home we finished the roofing.

We had a local visitor, Susan, that shared her experience of the reservation, providing insight on Native American culture for our weekly volunteers.

Again, please consider volunteering here at Pine Ridge. The Volunteer Center will require many more hours of volunteer work, so if anyone is willing to aid please contact the Lititz Office. Thank you for all that have come before, and blessings to each one who has taken time out of their busy schedules to assist here at Pine Ridge.
