Pine Ridge, SD – Weekly Report – Apr 29-May 3, 2019
May 13, 2019
This week at the Pine Ridge MDS project, a group of nine short term volunteers came from Montgomery and Odin, Indiana. In addition, a couple from Hardin, Montana came to serve for the week. Two volunteers who signed up for two weeks joined us from Goshen, Indiana and Archbold, Ohio.
Even though we welcomed in the month of May and the promise of spring – we experienced two days of snow. A lot of good progress was made, in spite of the weather.
At Tammy’s house, the sheetrock was almost finished by the end of the week. At Jhacie’s house the framing was completed, the roof was installed and the house was dried in.
One of the highlights of the week was the beautiful music provided by the Wiebe family, plus Dave from Montana. This helped make the “winter” weather a little more bearable. Some of the volunteers were able to visit the Red Cloud Heritage Center.
One evening, Maretta, coordinator of the long term recovery committee, joined us for supper. It was beneficial to learn from her about the impact of the storms and to learn more about the Pine Ridge Reservation and the people who live here.
We all enjoyed the delicious food and fellowship.
Thanks to all who were here for their service and dedication.
