Pine Ridge, S.D., Weekly Report, June 4-8, 2018
June 22, 2018
Construction is in full swing in southwestern South Dakota, with 15 weekly and 13 long-term volunteers actively working at six home sites on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Kim’s house was framed, Lynette and Kerry’s houses both had siding installed, had drywall completed and are ready for mudding and taping. Susan and Ray’s houses are in process and John’s house was totally painted, inside and out.
Four Disaster Management Program students and their Student Life Coordinator from Hesston College joined the long-term crew for eight weeks. A new Project Director and Office Manager are in place for June.
A large group of Old Amish young adults from Pennsylvania served as weekly volunteers, inspiring us with their hard work and good humor.
Some of the volunteers experienced their first 100 degree heat. All survived but few felt the need to repeat the experience!
