Paradise, CA – Weekly Report – March 22-26, 2021
March 30, 2021
What a busy week we had!! With our time winding down here on Friday we had lots to get done. A group a volunteers from California arrived on Sunday evening ready and willing to work. The local Methodist church had a lot of trees and brush behind their church that needed to be cleaned up so a group went there for several days to help.
The “tiny house” was moved out of the warehouse and journeyed to its new home on Yankee Hill on Tuesday morning. Sanding and painting was done on Wednesday along with plumbing and electrical. The floor was laid and kitchen cabinets installed. A covered deck was made out of redwood which really added a lot of charm to the “tiny house”. A dedication was done on Thursday morning at 9:00 with the new owner, Les Owens. He was very appreciative.
Another project that was started and finished this week was the construction of a house ramp for an elderly woman. A team of 3 got the job done in good time and it turned out excellent!
On Thursday evening we had three fire survivors here as our dinner guests. Cherylee and Terry told us their harrowing stories escaping their homes during the fire. They both lost everything in the fire. Gary told the story of how he saved his home spraying water on it. He is a retired fireman and had bought fire hose in case he ever needed it. After 15 years he used it and saved his home!
We have enjoyed our time in Paradise, CA and have made many wonderful memories. There is plenty more work to be done in Paradise and we are looking forward to returning in the future.
