Meridian, MS – Weekly Report – Feb 18-22, 2019

February 26, 2019

The long term volunteers for the past six weeks left at the end of last week and a new group that will serve for the next four weeks began our service.  Thanks to the previous leaders for a smooth transfer of responsibility.

Our short term group consisted of 11 ladies and 1 man from New York State.

They worked hard, had a lot of fun, and we enjoyed them very much. Although several came without a lot of construction experience they learned quickly, accomplished much, and left with some new skills.

We had rain, some very heavy, for most of the week which caused a slight change of plans.  One day was spent at Ms. Trudy’s home installing lights and flooring.  All that remains to be done is trim work.  Since we need to do our sawing outdoors, we moved the crew to Ms. Monica’s house for the remainder of the week.

At Ms. Monica’s we removed old paneling, installed insulation and sheetrock, prepared floors for the new flooring, and started mudding.

The second crew spent their week at Ms. Flora’s home.  This was the week for drywall finishing, and by the end of the week some rooms were ready for painting.  There was also some trim work, bathroom repairs, and other small jobs completed.
