Greenbrier County, WV – Weekly Report – Jan 27-31, 2020

February 11, 2020

This week our short term volunteers were unable to arrive on Sunday evening, so we welcomed them shortly after lunch on Monday.  They quickly moved in and were out on the jobs in no time!  There are 14 of them that travelled from PA to spend the week here.

So Monday afternoon found the crews working at three different sites.  At Ms. Kensinger’s, the interior walls and blocking was done and some windows installed, as well as stringers built for temporary stairs.  At Ms. Cales they were doing roofing.  The crew at Ms. Morrison’s house was working on drywall, siding and soffit.  On Tuesday, the volunteers finished all the roofing at Ms.  Kensinger’s home and hung several doors and windows.  At Ms.  Morrison’s, a crew hung drywall and mudded, along with working on putting up siding.  At Ms. Cales, the work included shingles, the deck, building temporary steps and working on a window.

All the trades have been working hard to get the electrical, plumbing and HVAC in, and inspections have passed in three of the homes.

On Wednesday we focused on the two homes in Caldwell, with much of the vinyl siding getting up at Ms. Morrison’s, as well as volunteers working on putting up drywall and mudding indoors.  The crew was also back at Ms. Gabbert’s on Wednesday working on insulation, soffit and the deck.  So much has gotten accomplished this week, thanks to our great volunteers!  By the end of the week, all the siding and soffit was completed at Ms. Cales as well.

We were sorry to say our goodbyes to Bill, one of our crew leaders.  He has been with us since the beginning of January and we appreciate all his leadership.  We’ve enjoyed his good sense of humor and he’s been a great member of our long term team!  Blessings to you, Bill, and thank you so much!
