Greenbrier County, WV – Weekly Report – Feb 3-7, 2020

February 11, 2020

Ten men arrived from Virginia this week, a group of six from Ohio, and a couple also from Virginia joined us this week to put their skills to work on the homes here.  The men sang several times for our devotional times and we really enjoyed that – beautiful!  We also welcomed Gordon and Maria Martens from Canada to our team.  Gordon will be a crew leader here and Maria will be one of our cooks.

We had to deal with rain again, and unfortunately, it looks like it is going to continue for a while into the next week.  But at this point, we have inside work to do and we’re thankful for that!  The mudding and sanding of the drywall was finished up at Ms. Morrison’s home and some of the volunteers began the interior painting on Tuesday.  It is looking so nice!  On Monday it was 60 degrees here so several women were outside at camp painting doors and trim for that home.  A few volunteers were also working at Ms.  Morrison’s digging post holes and starting to build the ramp.  That’s on hold now until the rain stops.  They did get the porch steps built.

At Ms. Kensinger’s, the volunteers worked on siding and soffit the first few days of the week.  The hanging of drywall began at Ms. Cales and continued through the week.  The first coat of taping was finished at Ms. Gabbart’s by the end of the week and porch siding was put on.

The volunteers enjoyed some rousing games of volleyball in the gym during the evenings.  It’s great to have that space for volunteers to use and enjoy!  One evening we had a hymn sing and enjoyed “raising the rafters” with song!
