Greenbrier County, WV – Weekly Report – Feb 24-28, 2020

March 3, 2020

This week began with the arrival of 10 volunteers from Ohio, with three more of their group arriving on Tuesday evening.  Another young lady from Ohio also arrived Sunday evening and she will be staying for two weeks.

The weather has been a bit more agreeable with not much rain.  The temperatures change a lot from quite cold, and some flurries, to nice balmy 50’s!  So we just try to be prepared for anything!  We enjoy when the sun peeks through!

Monday found us still sanding drywall at Ms. Cales.  Then the rest of the week the volunteers did a great job putting gallons of paint on the interior ceiling and walls. Several closet doors were also installed. It is looking so nice.  The Cales are a family with 6 children, and they are so ready to be in their new home!  They joined us for our evening meal on Thursday and we enjoyed having them and their children with us.  They shared with us about their family and their flood story.

The mudding continued at Ms. Kensinger’s along with building the front steps and digging holes in the stony, wet soil for ramp posts.  That’s hard work!  The drywall mudding was completed on Wednesday and then the sanding began!  They continued work on the ramp and that is progressing well.

At Ms. Gabbert’s home, the pad was poured for the ramp.  Volunteers were working on all the finish up work, including putting in the countertop, putting up trim and baseboard, hanging interior doors, and painting exterior doors.

We are beginning a new home in Union for Mr. and Mrs. Miller.  It has a foundation of almost 10 feet high!  At the end of the week, several volunteers were helping the contractor with

This weekend, we said a sad farewell to four of our long term team that has been with us the last 2 months!  Katrina and Uriah will both be taking a break and then moving on to their next assignment in their year long MDS experience.  Jonathan, and Rebekah, went back home to Ohio.  We so enjoyed having these four as part of our team, and we will miss their cooperative, servant hearts in so many ways!  Blessings to you all as you continue to serve Him wherever you are!
