On June 23, 2016, much of West Virginia was hit by thunderstorms, torrential rain, and flash floods. Some areas received up to 10 inches of rain within 12-24 hours. The rainfall amount in Greenbrier County, one of the hardest hit areas, was considered a 1000-year-event. Some 1200 homes were damaged, there were 15 confirmed deaths and many injuries. Roads were washed out; bridges were destroyed, and thousands were left without power.
MDS Volunteers will be staying at the Rhema Christian Center. Weekly volunteers will be staying in classrooms converted to bunkrooms and leadership volunteers will be staying in smaller classrooms.
