Grand Forks, BC – Weekly Report – Sept 30-Oct 4, 2019
October 10, 2019
It has been a week of much celebration and many tears. As we focused on getting the last of our projects completed we were, once again, reminded of how God has been in every phase of this journey. Knowing what still needed to be done was skillfully accomplished by volunteers who had signed up months ago… God was (and is) in control.
Neil and Leonard spent the entire week finishing the Norwood home and on Friday the home was completed; furniture dusted, floors swept and mopped, bathroom scrubbed and countertops cleared and cleaned. At the beginning of the week the flooring hadn’t yet been laid so much was accomplished in a very short time.
Jan took ownership of restoring the Metcalfe home with a real sense of joy and excitement as she watched the homeowner get more and more involved in the job. She was able to present her with a quilt and a Bible on Friday, as well as having the job card signed off. A first for Jan!
Last minute touch-ups at the Yates home were done and that house was also cleaned and ready for the owner to start rebuilding his life. After several years of living in a trailer on the property, this will be a welcome change.
On Wednesday, a Celebration service was held at River Valley Community Church. They have been an amazing host family and we want to acknowledge how grateful we are for all they have done for us. This Celebration was attended by the Mayor, Case Management team members, clients, friends and family, and MDS volunteers as a final farewell to the Grand Forks project.
And so we come to end of our week here in Grand Forks, blessed immensely by what God has allowed us to accomplish. It has left us with many memories (including many 5 Crowns games), new friends, and people to continue to pray for. Many seeds were planted and it was incredible to see the change that has already taken place. Hope has been restored, lives are being rebuilt. Praise to God!
