Ft. Myers, Fla., Weekly Report, March 19-23, 2018
April 6, 2018
Fifteen short-term volunteers were here this week, including two married couples and eleven single men from Pennsylvania and one man from Manitoba. This week was a short work week, as the Riverside Camp where MDS is headquartered needed their facilities for an event from Friday to Monday, causing the work crew to leave a day early.
Ryan’s work crew this week did roofing all week long. They were treated to a rib dinner one noon, guests of a community organization.
Ray’s crew did roofing on several houses and built a deck with a 26’ wheelchair ramp.
Dave’s crew did interior work of painting, caulking, trim work and hanging kitchen cabinets.
The cooks treated us to a special seafood meal one evening, which we enjoyed. Sticky buns and cookies also were on the menu this week, thanks to the women from Pennsylvania. Zack, the intern from Bluffton College, completed his time here and left on Friday.
A special blessing this week was the singing by the Old Order Amish group from Pennsylvania. They sang for devotions and also had a hymn sing one evening … after their volleyball game.
Dorothy, our office manager, had a typical week, serving as banker…receptionist…sales lady…etc.
Don visited the job sites, signed up new jobs, and dealt with legal affairs concerning permits.
Six jobs were completed this week, and one new job signed on which makes for a total of 51 jobs processed through the Fort Myers site.
Long term volunteers are: Ray and Mim Heisey, Don Mintmier, Dave and Dorothy Siegrist and Ryan Sprunger.
