Conway, SC – Weekly Report – Jan 21-25, 2019
January 29, 2019
Sunday evening nine men arrived from the Harleysville, Pennsylvania area anxious to find out where they will be working and what they will be doing on Monday morning. They were joined by Catherine from Glenside, PA who recently heard about MDS from her church. She decided to fly down and have a change of pace and help someone out who had a need. Phil Gehret and Tom Fry also returned to work for MDS again. Monday afternoon Sheldon Wenger arrived with seven from Bridgewater, Virginia area.
On Monday morning all of the volunteers went to the Sherman double wide trailer and started gutting. On Tuesday, crew leader Sandra Martin took her crew to the Barker house and continued dry walling, doing plumbing and some electrical work and started the painting. Bob Martin’s one crew went to Ms. Sara’s house to finish installing cabinets, hang doors etc. to complete that house. She had tears of happiness and many words of thanks. Bob’s other crew blessed the Updegraffs by starting the drywall. Wednesday they continued working on their jobs. Thursday, the Bridgewater group and others found out what it means to gut a house as they finished where the others had worked on Monday. Three of the fellows returned to Ms. Odyssey’s house. It had been worked on back in December and was waiting for kitchen cabinets to get shipped in. She too had many words of thanks to give them. Friday the jobs continued.
Two jobs were signed off this week and two new jobs signed on.
We enjoyed games and fellowship in the evenings and took time to help Phil Gehret celebrate his 81st birthday.
We’re seeing signs of spring, with the tulips blooming.
We sadly said goodbyes to Bob & Sandra Martin on Friday. We’ll miss their leadership and all the humor they brought to camp.
