Coastal Bend – Weekly Report – January 19, 2018

January 25, 2018

In the weeks leading up to the start of the project, we had a group of seven men from Pennsylvania who came in before Christmas to start the process of repairing the houses we would be using for our camp.  They worked on two roofs, repaired an exterior wall and also reinsulated and drywalled some ceilings as well as doing some kitchen renovations inside the main house.

A group of four also from Pennsylvania joined the first group.  They worked hard to continue the renovations and building of dorm rooms, as well as cleaning the facility.  As the long-term crew came in they joined in the work, getting the shower trailer in shape, more cleaning, and building,  assembling bunks and scrambling to get everything in shape for the first-week-long crew to come in.

The volunteers for this first official week of the Coastal Bend Project joined us from Penn Yan, New York, as well as one fellow from Pennsylvania.  It was an energetic group of four ladies and 11 men.

Work for the week consisted of shingling a house, more cleaning, shingling and painting the exterior of our first client’s home, as well as building sheds.

One of the highlights for the group was when the ladies decided that the fountain in the camp yard needed to be cleaned up and filled up and then started up again.  They worked busily, accomplished their mission and we now have a clean and working fountain on our site.
