Coastal Bend, TX RV – Weekly Report – Jan 27-31, 2020

February 5, 2020

Dennis and Joanne Friesen, Manitoba; Jim and Annette Martens, Manitoba, Wayne and Val Papple from Alberta, Jim and Linda Showalter; Indiana; Paul and Lisa Schamback, New York; and Wayne and Delores Yoder, Ohio, continue into their third week of working together.

The last week of January has arrived already. It seems like time has gone fast. We are finished with our first house. Final trim was installed, covering nail holes, and touch up painting along with necessary caulking was completed. Four from the group did some repair work for an individual couple. The week closed out with those four working on a deck and ramp in another area.

Connecting with people and listening to them, giving them hope is something many of the people here need. Interacting with the local electrician, talking about backgrounds and the various worship styles at church. He said he missed the hymns and wondered who the singers were. We took time to sing one verse of “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Moments like these are special.

This week we had one couple who was hurting in many ways and came across with many expectations. As several in our group related to them in loving ways, the couple appeared to soften up some and be more receptive.  They are dealing with health concerns, thus making it more challenging in waiting for things to be done in their home. In the short time the workers were there, it seemed that love was shown and accepted.  One of our jobs is to plant seeds hoping they grow.

Next week we look forward to starting a new house. It sounds like painting and caulking hearty board will be one of the first tasks at hand.
