Citrus County, FL RV – Weekly Report – Jan 7-11, 2019
January 14, 2019
The first full week of work in Citrus County went very well. The 11 people in our group from Illinois, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Missouri, and Virginia worked very hard. With willing hands, we got a lot accomplished in Karen Lyman’s home. This is a home that Karen began fixing up herself with the help of her neighbor and family. She is a grandmother who is raising 3 of her grandchildren. Karen recently fell and broke her arm so is now in a cast limiting her mobility. One of her daughters also lives with her to try and help her wherever she can. Karen stated, “I don’t know what I would do without her.” As we work, Karen tries to help wherever she can and with a great attitude. So far we have built a wall in the living room to include an electric fireplace replacing a wood burning one that was destroyed. The team has painted all of the kitchen cabinets and rehung the doors on them. A new microwave and hood vent was also put in. The ladies have painted the living room, dining room, kitchen, and one bedroom. Trim has been put up and nearly all of it has been painted. New doors have been painted and Bob and Marlin began to hang them on Thursday. The teens primed the back of the house the day before they had to go back to school and on Thursday two of the guys painted the top coat. Windows have been trimmed out and some of them got painted. We hope to get the small tasks completed this coming week including hanging the rest of the doors, touching up the paint, etc. Oh, and laying 1000 feet of flooring.
On Wednesday morning, Norm, Bob, and Ray went to Beverly Hills, Florida to finish another small job. Here they replaced soffit around the porch that was rotted out for a lady named Diana Wilbur. She had her roof replaced earlier in the year but was waiting patiently for the repair work to get done. It was a small job, but to her it meant the world. Sometimes those little things that we do can make such a difference in people’s lives. We have another small job to do this next week and are hoping for another happy lady.
