Victoria County, Bloomington, Tex., Weekly Report, June 25-29, 2018
July 9, 2018
This was the first week of our Summer Youth Program. We had 10 youth and five adults from Central Mennonite Church in Archbold, Ohio. These folks were so much fun, and they worked extremely hard through the heat, humidity, and Texas-sized mosquitoes!
The project director’s wife, Cheryl, also joined us during his last week here. Cheryl helped with driving and office work. At the end of the week, we bid a fond farewell to Rose, Elaine, Mary and Becca from Pennsylvania, who served for the last month as cooks and/or on the jobsites.
At Ernest’s house, the trusses were trued, and sheeting was started on the roof. Ernest received a new electric wheelchair this week, so our team also built a ramp at his mother’s house where Ernest has been living since his house was removed in preparation for this rebuild.
We started building the wheelchair ramp at Joe’s this week; and poured the concrete slab at the base of the ramp and stairs. The skirting and soffit were painted. Touch-ups and clean-up was started on the interior, as well as installation of screens and towel bars.
All of the drywall was hung at Ernie and Zenaida’s home. Taping, mudding, and sanding were started. The cement slab was poured at the front of the house. The steps and deck were built, and the deadbolts were installed on the doors.
We started stacking the concrete blocks for the piers at the White’s jobsite. The foundation framework was started at the site of another new build for the Gonzales/Martinez home.
Blessings from your friends in Bloomington: Gene, Cheryl, Rose, Mary, Elaine, Becca, Justina, Jan, Michael, Steve, and Dee.
