Welcome to the MDS All-Unit Meeting

The All-Unit Meeting (AUM) is MDS’ annual meeting in which all units, volunteers, and MDS staff come together to worship, learn, and fellowship. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The 2020 theme is “Seeing Jesus Among Us.”

The next AUM will be held on Friday and Saturday, February 7-8, 2020 in Goshen, Indiana at Maple City Chapel, 2015 Lincolnway E., Goshen, Indiana.

Free transportation will be provided to and from South Bend Regional Airport and the Elkhart Amtrak station to the hotels listed in Accommodations. Attendees are encouraged to fly into South Bend, Indiana. However, there is public transportation operated by Coach USA between South Bend Regional Airport and O’Hare and Midway airports in Chicago. Information about these services can be found online.

(1) South Bend, Indiana Tour
Price: $40 USD pp (all-inclusive)
Depart: 9:00am from Maple City Chapel
Return: 4:45pm to Maple City Chapel 

In this tour you will:

  • Visit the Studebaker National Museum
  • Visit the History Museum
  • Visit the Oliver Mansion
  • Visit the Civil Rights Heritage Center
  • Eat buffet lunch at The Indian Garden
  • Visit the Notre Dame University campus – Golden Dome, Basilica of the Sacred Heart
  • Take a driving tour of revitalized areas of South Bend
  • Mennonite connections, near Northwest Neighborhood and Kern Road Mennonite Church

(2) Shipshewana, Indiana Tour                           
Price: $30 USD pp (all-inclusive)
Depart: 9:00am from Maple City Chapel
Return: 2:30pm to your motel or Maple City Chapel, OR join either the Elkhart or the Goshen tour group after lunch, beginning at 2:15pm.

In this tour you will:

  • Visit the Menno-Hof Mennonite and Amish Visitor Center
  • See the campus of Everence Financial Services
  • Eat buffet lunch at Maple Indian Cuisine

Optional Friday Lunch 
If you are not taking a Shipshewana morning but would like to take one of the afternoon tours, join us for lunch at ($13 USD per person; no need to pay or sign up in advance) at Maple Indian Cuisine in Goshen at 1:00pm, followed by the afternoon tour of your choice at 2:15pm. Transportation for lunch at Maple Indian Cuisine will be provided from Maple City Chapel at 12:45pm if needed.

The following workshops will be available on Saturday, February 8.

(1) Effective Volunteer Engagement / facilitators: MDS Volunteer Team
Learn ways to identify and engage local volunteers, to provide meaningful experiences for them, and to retain them with your organization.

(2) MDS Construction Standards and Problem Solving / convener: Harold Friesen
A panel of MDS construction supervisors will address common problem areas and discuss solutions and best practices on the job site. In preparation for this session, email your “favourite” problem detail to

(3) Tools for Telling the MDS Story / facilitator: Jess Huxman
Media interviews, church presentations and even elevator rides give us opportunities to tell the MDS story. This workshop will help you craft articulate messages that tell the MDS story and convey the passion we all share for rebuilding and restoring lives after disasters hit.

(4) Case Management by MDS /facilitators: Evelyn Peters-Rojas and others
MDS Canada is most often required to provide their own case management. This workshop will offer training on how to do unit-based case management in order to ensure a good match with MDS’ mission.

2019 Highlights

On February 8-9, 2019 MDS held its annual All-Unit meeting at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tucson, Arizona. The estimated 300 people that attended enjoyed presentations from all five regions, five different workshops, delicious food, and good fellowship.
