Aibonito, PR – Weekly Report – Mar 25-29, 2019
April 1, 2019
One of the joys of volunteering with MDS is making new friends and reconnecting with former friends. This was the case for us this week when we welcomed our four Pennsylvania volunteers which included Lee Charles, Herb Hoover, Bruce Stauffer and Tim Smoker.
Our week started by replacing the damaged ceiling in Ana’s house and front porch, the house where last week’s team completed the installation of a new roof. Once these repairs were finished, we moved on to replacing the roof on Wanda’s house. Bats were disturbed when the blue tarp was rolled back and the old tin removed. This made for some interesting moments but eventually everything calmed down so work could proceed. An overcast sky gave a nice break from the sun while installing the new tin roof. Raindrops fell on the windshield as we drove away from the job site Friday. We were singing songs of praise for the timing of the much needed rain which held off until the final screw was put in place.
We were extra pleased to have completed both of these projects this week. The house we thought we were going to work on wasn’t ready for us so it took some scrambling to get materials in place to work on Wanda’s house instead. Needless to say, Wanda was pleasantly surprised to be the recipient of this team’s good work after waiting nearly a year and a half for a new roof. Noon lunches prepared by each of these homeowners provided a special time for fellowship.
Since we do not have a team coming to Aibonito next week, it will be a welcomed time for Linda and Harry to focus on things around the guest house. We give God praise for continued guidance and watch over us as we complete our fourth time of serving here in Puerto Rico.
