Aibonito, PR – Weekly Report – Feb 4-8, 2019
February 14, 2019
This week we had six volunteers: five (Niles Graber Alvarez, Rodney Reschly, Alan Ediger, Sandra Hostetler, and Paul Gingerich) from Goshen, Indiana and one (Emma Gerigscott) from Portland, Oregon. The team had great energy and comradery. We all took turns having the morning devotional and sharing our stories. Those were special moments.
The team began stripping the roof on Monday and finished with the completed roof on Friday. Rafael and Betty Reyes and their family were living in the house while the work was being done. Rafael, and sometimes his sons, also helped with the job while Betty made the delicious noon meals. They were so grateful for the team and the work that was done. On Friday morning we had a house blessing at the job site. Not only did they sign off the job card, but they were presented with a wall hanging signed by the team and gifts and speeches. Alan gave them hats, Linda made brownies for them, and Sandra gave Betty lotion. After prayer for them we sang the chorus “This Is The Day.”
On Tuesday night Niles and Emma took us to the house where their grandparents used to live at the top of the mountain. From there we watched the sun set, with all its beauty and color over the ocean and mountains. On Friday night we went out as a team for delicious pizza, again at a mountain peak lookout. It was a wonderful way to end a very productive and special week.
