New Year’s Greetings to Friends and Supports of MDS,
As 2009 rolls out, here are a few updates from MDS Region V (Canada) for your church bulletins as you have room. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers and in your news as you are able!
Hundreds of Canadian volunteers are slated to serve at MDS binational projects in Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and California now in January-March (exact #s available in our next update!). Keep them in your prayers asking for safe travel, safe work days, and joy in serving disaster survivors.
Are you available for some time between April and August to serve with MDS? We are in need of leadership and skilled construction persons especially at our summer youth/student projects (June-July).
Upcoming events:
Annual MDS Bi-national gathering (All Unit) – Feb 13-14, 2009 - Mobile, Alabama- Registration at www.mds.mennonite.net
Annual MDS Manitoba banquet and program - April 4, Steinbach
MDS Awareness and Dessert evening – April 24, Edmonton
Thank you to all those who gave generously to MDS at year end. Feel free to request our annual financial report and/or Year in Review DVD (ready mid-February) where you can see that MDS is healthy and able to meet its commitments at this time. Thank you also to those that helped make our first annual Christmas open house in December a success (extension office Winnipeg).
MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.
Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
