An Early Response Team from New York joined Region II MDS volunteers from Indiana and Kentucky this week as clean up efforts continue in Kentucky after the ice storms. MDS has volunteers working in Benton, Hopkinsville, Liberty, and Lincoln City, Kentucky.
To date, MDS volunteers helped to remove tree branches and debris from over 150 private yards and the “to-do” list has grown to include over 150 more homes.
Roger Claassen from Nebraska and Jim and Phil Eicher from Indiana brought heavy machinery in to the area to assist with the clean up. Jerry Klassen, MDS Disaster Response Coordinator, along with Willis Troyer, Region II Director, will travel to the area next week to investigate the possibility of MDS involvement in other areas of the state.
MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.
Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
