Monday morning was nothing unusual except that it was the beginning of a new week .All the interns are beginning to feel the end of their tenure is near and plans are starting to formulate on the time when they leave this project. However most have strong minds and a strong will to continue to the finish.
This week saw the windows arrive for the B house and the C house. The windows were installed in less than half a day with much credit due to good framing practices that had all the rough openings the correct size. With the house now wrapped and the windows installed we can get the next inspection on its way. The facia and soffits were also completed by week’s end with the house taking on a completely new look. The plumbing and electrical rough-ins have also been completed and now the sprinkler system can be installed. When the next inspection passes we can then get to work on the siding and drywall after the roof is done.
The C house has seen a lot of progress this past week. After the flooring inspection passed the walls were framed and by the end of the week the trusses were in place. With the sheeting of the roof done the roof nailing inspection can be done and then the felt and the shingles can be installed.
Friday was an exciting time at the T house. The last bit of finishing was completed and except for some minor items, such as one cabinet door and installation of appliances we are done. Only the House Dedication is left, which has been scheduled for June 30, 2009, and another family has a home to move into. We thank God for these mercies and trust that the Blessings from Him are to strengthen and continue His Empire.
The weather has been very comfortable with highs in the mid eighties and the evenings and nights a cool sixty degrees. No rain yet and there does not appear to be any in the next week. Therefore work will not be hampered in any way.
We also said good-bye to our very capable construction supervisor, Dick Buhler and our cook Ginny Buckwalter and her capable assistant Esther Buhler. They have gone back to Canada to enjoy the balance of the summer there. As some folks go others join us to continue the job before us. This week we were joined by John and Wendy Colvin, who will be at the project until August 1, 2009.

MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.
Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
