Responding Rebuilding Restoring

Weekly Report for Pass Christian

April 10, 2009
Category: Pass Christian, MS

Two highlights of the last two weeks were a bus of 34 from Rosthern Junior College in SK, students, chaperones and two bus drivers. The owner of the bus and his son participated in the work and we got lots done. We had to evacuate to the fire hall Thursday afternoon, April 2, when we had a tornado warning for our area. This produced a lot of rain and a little hail. We heard later on that there had been trees down as well.

Wednesday. April 6, we had dedication for Ms. Angela’s home which was a good experience for the volunteers. The owners of the homes we are working on all have visited both weeks which was encouraging for our volunteers.

We will be closing down camp with three homes in progress; siding will be completed on, decks, stairs and handrails ninety percent complete on Mr. Jule’s home, rough-in’s, inspections complete, ready for insulation and drywall. Mrs. Hall’s home will have the drywall finished ready for paint, all exterior complete including siding, decks, stairs and handrails, and underneath complete. Ms. MaryAnn’s home is all closed in, rough-in and inspections complete and ready for insulation and drywall.

Camp will be ready and waiting for youth camps beginning in June.

Youth work:

Hall house ready for interior paint and trim, etc.

Piernas house will need balusters and treads to be installed.

Piernas’ and Collins’ houses will need insulation and drywall, insulation and sheathing for underneath the house.

Volunteer

MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.

Donate

Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
