Weekly Report for Newton RV

We of the Newton RV Project say a sad farewell to Newton the end of this week. We have all enjoyed our time here and the opportunity to help people who have suffered the devastating effects of Hurricanes Rita and Ike.

Sunday we held the home dedication for Ms. Linda. Many family and friends came out. Pastor Charles Foster spoke and offered the prayer of dedication. Diane presented Ms. Linda with a beautiful wall hanging made by a Mennonite woman in Kansas. Len presented her with a Bible and Vern presented her with “The Hammer Rings Hope” book. Pat gave her a lovely poinsettia plant. At the end, Walt presented her with the keys, which he promptly took back, as her house isn’t quite finished.

This week Vern, Len and Walt completed the roof for Mr. Art. He is delighted that his roof doesn’t leak anymore!

We worked toward completion of Ms. Linda’s house, but we didn’t get quite finished. This week Nettie, Diane and Pat finished putting the finish coat on the cabinets for kitchen and bathroom. Diane and Pat put the hardware back on and Diane put the doors back on the cabinets.

Phil finished most of the trim work and Vern and Len worked on odds and ends common to the completion of a project. Walt worked on finishing up the plumbing. Walt ended up installing the vinyl in kitchen and bath on Friday since the installer was ill. Carpet was installed Friday afternoon.

Vern worked on straightening up the tool trailer and cleaning up outside.

Saturday, Walt and Vern worked on the plumbing. They found a leak, so they fixed that.

We are leaving a little for the January team to do, but the inside is complete enough for Ms. Linda and her children to move in.
