It has been an interesting and busy week in the south west corner of Texas as the Deweyville team continues to build a two bedroom house for Miss JoAnn. The porch has been completed by Dick and Kathy and the railing installed by Bernie and Agnes. The steps and step railing are in thanks to Paul so now entry to the house no longer has to be by ladder. Walt and Vern have the service box installed and almost all interior wiring has been completed by them. Jake has mastered the use of a special electric tool that cuts hardiboard in a flash and he and Verna are installing the siding. Judy continue to balance the books and pay for materials while Art is all over the county locating building materials to keep the energetic crew busy. Don and Marilyn are busy ordering cabinets and countertops and picking up the flooring, sinks, faucets, etc.
Do you see the picture of an MDS construction crew? There are many, many little and big steps in building a house. What a joy to see it all come together under a concentrated effort by the "hands and feet of Jesus".
A highlight of the week was a visit by Evelyn Peters-Rojas, the Human Resources Coordinator in the Canadian Extension Office of MDS. Accompanying her was brother-in-law Dave. The ladies prepared a meal of chili beans and "zwiebach". Tables and chairs were hauled out to the worksite and the homeowner and son joined us for a wonderful lunch under the sun where the temperature was in the low 70’s.
MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.
Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
