Responding Rebuilding Restoring

Weekly Report for Dulzura

October 9, 2009
Category: Dulzura, CA

The adventure in Dulzura, California continued in October with new hosts at the MDS project site and 16 volunteers from Vinewood Mennonite Brethren Church, Lodi, California. Eight men and eight women, ranging in age from 27 to 85 years old, spent the week at four projects. God provided just the right skill mix to accomplish the work that was planned for the week. Under the excellent leadership of our crew chiefs, Rudy, Tina and Nicole, we textured and painted Edith and Hector’s home; sanded, textured, and started painting John’s home and finished the drywall at a third site. In addition, the foundation was laid and footings were dug at a fourth home site.

Getting to know people was the highlight of the week. This included getting to know the homeowners and hearing their stories. It is clear that hope is emerging in their lives from the efforts of MDS. We enjoyed having fellowship with our project staff members who shared their lives and talents with us. We were also able to strengthen relationships within our team as we shared bunks, bathrooms, meals and hard work. Serving together in Dulzura was everything we hoped it would be and more. We weren’t ready to leave and we can’t wait to serve again.

Volunteer

MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.

Donate

Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
