Responding Rebuilding Restoring

Weekly Report for Diamond

July 3, 2009
Category: Diamond, LA

This week we welcomed two different groups: one from British Columbia, Canada, and another from North Carolina. The group from Canada was a youth group and the group from North Carolina was the Detweilers, a family of five. When all was said and done, we had a lot of people to get to work on Monday! We also welcomed Jackie Shaw who is serving as a long-term crew leader.

More work was done at Ron's house, mainly inside. The insulation was put up, and sheet rock was started. On the outside, insulation was put up underneath the house, and the front porch and side deck ramp were sanded. Another crew dug a trench for the water line.

At Antoine's, crew leader Tina and the Detweiler family built a ramp. The father, Merlin, owns his own construction business and was a very big asset to the crew. They finished the deck/ramp by the end of the week.

At the Bayou, Maurice's deck was painted for the first two days of the week.

All in all, it was a good week, but we had three long-termers head off to help out in Pass Christian, MS. They left Friday afternoon. The heat was taking its toll on some of the youth, and some had to take a break throughout the week. But, we all made it through! Another amazing week in the southern Louisiana sun! Thanks to all who have made this all possible.

Aaron, Andy, Hope, Jackie, Jordan, Josh, Martha M., Maureen, Tina, Ray and Martha, and Rudy (minus Hope, Jordan, and Rudy who are now in Mississippi)

Volunteer

MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.

Donate

Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
