Responding Rebuilding Restoring

Weekly Report for Marble Falls

March 6, 2009
Category: Marble Falls, Tx

March saw the arrival of a new work team here at Marble Falls. Our group consists entirely of Canadians and we’re getting to know each other during work hours, and especially during evening visits. The weather has been quite warm the past few days, so sitting around outdoors is a real pleasure.

The work continues on Ms. P’s new build in Granite Shoals. Ladies have been busy painting interior doors under a shelter outside, until the wind gusts put an end to that! Once the plumbers finished and the inspection was done, wallboard installation could be completed. Our closet mudders are doing an excellent job, as are those working in other rooms! Ladies primed the entire exterior of the home this week and had a good start with the color coat. Other outdoor work included removing a multi-layered wire fence to make room for the septic field and preparing brick from a backyard fireplace for a special walkway.

We heard from other volunteers that Wednesday lunches were provided by a local church. Our invitation to lunch this week came from the First Baptist Church in Granite Shoals. They fed us chicken fajitas, rice, a lovely bean dish and amazing desserts. What a treat in the middle of a work week. As we were walking back to our vehicles, the comment was made, “I can hardly wait for next Wednesday!”

The hill country in this area of Texas is beautiful, but extreme drought conditions still exist. We pray that God will send some much needed rain, but not 18 inches at one time! As we ask Him to bless the ground with moisture, we ask Him to bless our client and her family.

Volunteer

MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.

Donate

Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
