The past week saw a lot of completions on the house in Deweyville. The sheet rock installation and texturing spearheaded by John and Linda was completed, the porch completed by the Neudorfs, all team members painting the interior, scaffolds removed and the electrical completed so the power could be turned on. The team has worked on days off to get the house completed by March 26, the end of the RV Project.
The team members "tired" the project director, Art, by keeping him running (driving) to keep ahead of the team with building materials. Judy, the office manager, keeps the bills and records organized and of course our host, the Baptist Church, has provided us with encouragement and inspiration to "finish the task".
The other day a member of the church called for a work day. "Why", everyone asked? "We need to build a fence around the entire church property", he replied.. "Why", someone else asked. "To keep the Mennonite Builders from leaving" The feeling is very mutual as we see the finish line ahead. We really don't want to leave. It's been such a great experience making new friends and being the "hands and feet of Jesus".
MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.
Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
