This week we welcomed eleven short-term volunteers from Virginia. We also said goodbye at the end of the week to Richard, Peter, Walter, and Graham.
The crews accomplished the following for our clients:
The worksite of Ms. Agnes’ house was cleaned up.
Ms. Juanita had part of the exterior of her house caulked and painted as well as trim painted and spackling repaired. She also had the prep work for her new front steps done followed by some inside touch-ups and painting.
Mr. Dwight had a ceramic tile floor installed.
Ms. Marie T. had venetian blinds and a tub door installed. She also had some painting and touch-ups done.
Ms. Marie G. had vanities installed, baseboard installed, and some finishing touches—shelf installation, doors fixed, etc.—done in her house.
Some of the materials were purchased to begin a new house belonging to Rev. L. A small amount of framing was also done.
On Wednesday evening we welcomed our colleagues from Catholic Charities to dine with us. They shared some of their stories and explained the funding process for rebuilding efforts.
Blessings from Jim and Marie, Lem and Alta, Peter, Walter, Graham, Karen, and Wendy.
MDS volunteers are known for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by disasters. But it takes more than construction skills to serve with MDS. During the time that you serve as a volunteer, you will learn that MDS also restores lives.
Your contribution will help to connect volunteers with disaster survivors who need assistance on their path to recovery. MDS depends on the support of people who believe that disaster response is an important part of helping those who are in need.
